Building a Pennsy A3 in 3/4" Scale

Hmmm... Just how big is a 3/4" scale locomotive? The problem with photographs is there needs to be something I know from the real world in the picture to make a comparison. The picture at right could be a full size engine from all indications. That's the beauty of good photography combined with good modeling. Although usually thought of as separate hobbies, they compliment each other.

I am starting this project as per the Kozo Hiraoka book, with the tender wheels. Those eight little babies will finish at 2-1/4 inches O.D. and 2-1/16 inches at the tread. Go look at an HO scale engine, then scratch your head in awe.

The book is already full of great pictures and instructions. Many of the book photos are likely to be repeated here. So I am NOT planning a step by step how-to in this series. Just some action shots and progress reports to get other wannabe builders hyped. Oh wait... Mr. Yoshiaki Watanabe has already built one in 1998! (You Kozo followers know SOMEONE had to say it!)

This project has the potential to become a very large file. So I have devised a new scheme that should make the low bandwidth download time a little more bearable. This page will serve as the "MAIN" and I will add links to the table below as the project files grow. Use the BACK button on your browser or the menu drop down at the top to return to this page.
